We live in Lewis County, just outside of Martinsburg, New York, a little village on State Route 26, in the Black River valley between Tug Hill Plateau and the foothills of the Adirondacks. We are accessible:
- 3 miles south of Lowville
- 30 miles southwest of Watertown
- 50 miles south of the Canadian border
- 50 miles north of Utica
- 90 miles north of Syracuse
- 120 miles northwest of Albany
- 170 miles northeast of Rochester

Local Attractions
- The Tug Hill Plateau snowmobile trail comes right past our house on Alger Road. Average snowfall on the plateau is 200-300"!
- The Maple Ridge Wind Farm on Tug Hill is visible out our back window.
- Snow Ridge ski area is just a few miles down Rte. 26.
- Our back field and gravel road are great for walking or biking in the summer and sledding, snow shoeing or cross country skiing in the winter.
- Whitaker Park and Whetstone Gulf State Park, both within a stone's throw of Alger Place, offer picnic and play areas, swimming, creek dipping, miles of scenic hiking, and cross country skiing trails.
- Fishing, hunting, canoeing, and golfing are not hard to find.
- Autumn foliage is brilliant from mid September into November, with an organized drive-it-yourself Fall Colors Tour organized on the first Sunday of October.
- Maple sugaring is a common local enterprise in the spring, and the Maple Museum in Croghan is open seasonally.
- Nearby villages afford plenty of small town charm and points of interest.
